Looking for information on my ancestor WIlliam Gilchrist, born about 1820, possibly in Sanquar,Dumfries.His parents were David Gilchrist and Jean Scott,married on Jan 13 1822 in sanquar ,Dumfries but there other children were born in Muirkirk. William had a brother Thomas Thomson ,born Dec 31,1837 and a brother John,born abt 1822,died Sept -Oct 1887 in Muirkirk.Also a sister Christian born aug 16,1835. William married a Marion Brown ,in1848 and had a son David born Sept 1848 in Muirkirk. Thomas married a Catherine Miekle .They had KAte, John ,David, & James all born in Scotland,,Both William and Thomas immigrated to America settleing in Pa. --Thanks Donna

Christine Kydd has advised us of her ancester JOHN LANG who was born in Muirkirk in 1878, the son of James Lang (Coal Miner) and Lilias Clelland (farm servant). James and Lilias had married in Muirkirk on 30th March 1877. James was the son of John Lang and Isabella Anderson while Lilias was the daughter of John Clelland and Margaret Whyte. James and Lilias lived at New Terrace where John was born.

Many generations of my Loggie family came from Muirkirk. My grandfather James Loggie was born there in 1888, married in 1911 and emigrated in 1928 to America. His parents were John Loggie and Grace Bryden Ferguson, both born in Muirkirk. John was born in 1866, married there in 1888 and died in Rigside. John's father James was born in Muirkirk in 1843, married Helen Kennedy Swann in 1864 and he died there in 1915. Each family had many children born in Muirkirk. Obviously, Muirkirk features very proudly in my heritage.

Erik Huhtala writes = Looking for info, or anyone who remembers my grandmother, Sarah "Sadie" Millar, who grew up in Muirkirk, then met my grandfather, Hans Huhtala in Glasgow or London, I believe, before coming over to the States. I had the pleasure of making my first visit to Scotland last September, stayed with family in Cumnock, and made several trips to Muirkirk during my stay. I was able to see what my Grandmother told me about as a child, Tibbie's Brig, Cairn Table, the Wading Pool, and also got to see the Miner's Memorial Park, along with the cemetary that my Great Grandparents, and my Great-Great Grandparents are buried in... Hope to come back in 2009 to play a round at the golf course!!

Iain Sanders needs help with this brick wall.
His great grandfather x4 Daniel Moran born in Ireland around about 1791. He married a Helen Bryce also born in Ireland around 1800.
In the 1841 census they lived in Garrenhill, Muirkirk, Ayrshire. And the name was spelt Morn. Their children were Agnes, 20 Ireland, Catherine, 15 Ireland, Susan 10, Ireland. They also had iain's great grandmother x3 Margaret who married a Walter Hill in 1835 in Muirkirk, ( Walter was also born in Ireland ). But, in the 1851 census Margaret was down as born in Kirkcudbright, she was born around 1820 before or just after Agnes. Margaret and Walter were living in Carluke, Lanarkshire at that time.
The surname has various spellings Moran, Morran, Morn and Morrian. Iain cannot find anything else on Daniel and Helen.
