Muirkirk Engine shed was closed on 5th October 1964 - location NS69532645
The Muirkirk Engine Shed was demolished in 1987

For railway buffs, the engine is the ex Caledonian Railway 4-4-0 LMS 3P No 54504.
These locomotive were designed by Pickersgill and 32 were built at the Caledonian Railway Works between 1920 and 1922 as the Caledonian Railway 72 Class.
Caledonian Railway numbers of the locomotives were 66 to 97
All transferred to British Railways in the number series 54477 to 54508.
The first loco withdrawn from service was 54481 in 1953 after an accident
It is understood than none of this class of locomotive have been preserved.
