• Cycling around Muirkirk
Cycling may not, at first, be a sport you would immediately link with Muirkirk. The village is, however, traditionally on the Tour of Britain route and cyclists are regularly to be seen racing, training or just enjoying the road between Muirkirk and Strathaven.
The walking paths around Muirkirk also offer potential for mountain bike routes, particularly the path on the old coach road between Muirkrik and Sanquhar and the path between Muirkirk and Wanlockhead.
50 mile circular cycle route is described on MapMyRide.com which takes in Strathaven, Hamilton, Kirkmuirhill, and Douglas.
